Hillsdale Board approves HIB self‑assessment, student supports and multiple personnel and finance motions

The Hillsdale Board of Education on Sept. 15 approved the district's 2024–25 Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Self‑Assessment grade report and a package of education, personnel and finance motions by unanimous consent.
The board, meeting at Ann Blanche Smith School, voted to accept the HIB self‑assessment as required under the Anti‑Bullying Bill of Rights Act and approved district participation in NJ Statewide Student Support Services (NJ4S) to provide Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 mental‑health supports at no cost to the district. The board also approved an intramural program schedule for Meadowbrook School (Oct. 3, 2025–April 24, 2026) and home‑instruction arrangements at $50 per hour for specified students.
Motions on personnel were approved under the Personnel Committee, including a Hall Monitor/Lunch Duty Aide appointment (subject to background checks), leaves of absence consistent with FMLA/NJFLA dates as listed in the agenda, a personnel transfer for a speech teacher across schools, approvals for substitutes and additional period coverage, and multiple professional‑development registrations. The board approved substitute teacher appointments and short‑term coverage for leave periods.
On finance items, the board approved July 2025 budget transfers as presented, certified the Board Secretary’s monthly report for 07/31/2025, and approved the August 2025 bill list in the amount of $2,098,181.60. The board authorized execution of a revised settlement agreement and general release in the matter John Doe v. George G. White Elementary School, et al. (Docket No. BER‑L‑004647‑21). It also approved tuition (sending) contracts for the 2025–26 school year (Northern Valley, $90,478.00; Brownstone School, $76,167.00) and a consultative sessions contract with Roaring Whisper for a specified student at $575.00.
Committee chairs moved the recommendations and each set of motions passed by consensus (5‑0). No motions were tabled and the minutes list approvals for motions labeled 1E–5E (Education), 1P–9P (Personnel), 1F–9F (Finance) and 1BG (Buildings & Grounds).
The meeting packet includes itemized budget transfer account numbers and estimated professional‑development costs where provided. The board also authorized disposal of identified obsolete equipment and approved multiple community uses of school facilities.
