Cayce approves $309,000 opioid-recovery funds for therapeutic equine program

Cayce City Council voted unanimously Aug. 5 to accept $309,000 from Lexington County’s opioid settlement recovery funds for the Fire Department’s Therapeutic Equine Program, a staff-led initiative to expand services to residents affected by opioid misuse.
City Manager Michael Conley credited Risk Reduction Manager Lindsey McDade for pursuing the funding and said the money would help acquire a vehicle and a horse trailer to support expanded programming.
"This was a proactive attempt by Ms. McDade to get more funding so she could do more amazing things," Conley said. Mayor Pro Tem Tim James moved to accept the funds and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with Lexington County; Council Member Hunter Sox seconded the motion and the roll call vote was unanimously in favor.
Council did not attach additional conditions to the acceptance beyond standard execution of the agreement; staff said they would implement the program through the Fire Department’s risk-reduction activities.
