The Hillsdale Board of Education voted Feb. 9 to resign its membership in the Pascack Valley Council for Special Education (PVCSE) effective June 30, 2026 and approved related financing and vehicle purchases as part of a package of finance committee actions passed by consensus.
The board authorized the chief school administrator to execute a SEMI program waiver request for 2026–2027 and approved a Lease Purchase Advisory Service Agreement with the Hunterdon County Education Services Commission (HCESC). The advisory agreement specifies compensation equal to 0.5% of the total funding amount, payable at closing or funding disbursement, and includes a $1,000 cancellation fee if the district elects not to proceed. The agreement term is six months and the board authorized the Board Secretary to execute the contract on behalf of the district.
Under the same finance package the board authorized the purchase of three 2026 Ford Transit 8‑passenger vans from H.A. DeHart & Son, Inc., sourced through HCESC Cooperative Bid #HCESC‑VEH22‑11. The unit price is $82,870.93; total contract amount is $248,612.79. The minutes state the vehicles will be financed via the lease purchase arrangement previously authorized by the board.
The board also approved routine finance items in the package: Board Secretary and Treasurer reports for October and November 2025, budget transfer approvals, certification under N.J.A.C. 6A:23‑2.11(c)4 that no major account has been over‑expended as of reporting dates, and the January 2026 bill list in the amount of $1,304,018.75. Contracts to provide home instruction through Learn Well for identified students were approved as part of the finance motions.
All motions recorded in the minutes for these finance committee items passed by consensus vote 4‑0.
What happens next: the SEMI waiver will be submitted to the Executive County Superintendent; the lease advisory contract with HCESC will proceed to execution and, if funding is secured, the district business administrator is authorized to issue purchase orders for the vans.
