Board adopts physical-restraint policy and votes on class rank change with one dissent

On July 21 the Millville Board of Education approved, on second reading, Policy P5561: Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion Techniques for Students with Disabilities. The policy was listed as a new policy and passed during the Board Governance & Policy agenda item.
The board also considered Policy P5430 (revised) on class rank. The roll-call recorded in the minutes shows that Mrs. Malone voted against the class-rank change while other board members voted in favor. During the public review of the agenda, resident Tamara Davis objected to removing class rank, saying it would lower standards and remove incentives for students to strive for higher placement; the minutes record her concern but do not record a board response beyond the policy vote.
