Rowley MLP reports progress on substation, solar interconnections and construction projects

General Manager Matt Brown provided a multi-part operations update. He said the substation transformer replacement project is moving forward: line staff delivered two more control panels to the contractor and UPG is scheduled to test completed panels starting May 4, with additional panel work to follow. Brown said new revenue meters and sockets are on order and the sockets were scheduled to ship April 29. When Commissioner Mark Cousins asked whether meters were reading actual usage during the process, Brown confirmed they are reading actual, not estimated.
On distribution work, Brown said the Kittery Ave conversion job is about 90% complete; four transformers remain to be changed before conversion is finished. He reported ongoing customer projects at Chase Bank and the New England Asian Restaurant, and that Harborlight has paid for two transformers and will pay replacement value when required. Brown also said there are 39 residential solar systems interconnected and the total should reach 40 by summer following a recent interconnection signing.
Brown noted that the department received an A+ global rating from Standard & Poor’s. He invited the board to request a substation-yard tour now that spring conditions have reduced hazards and the project is on schedule. No formal motions or votes were taken on construction or meter items at this meeting.
