Hutchinson council accepts Elks donation, approves licenses and routine business; data center prompts public questions

The Hutchinson City Council on June 9 approved routine consent items, accepted a community donation and heard public comments about a proposed data center coming to town.
MayAnn, Hutchinson City Administrator, said a representative from MRPA presented a 'word of excellence' award to the city and parks department for VMF grandstand and facility renovations. “The city received [an] award and the MRPA was out to present that to the City Council and the city staff,” she said. The transcript does not expand the MRPA acronym or identify the presenting individual.
The council formally accepted a donation from the Hutchinson Elks “for just over $7,000” to fund a musical-playground feature at Elks Park; MayAnn said the Elks attended the meeting to present the check. She also reported the council approved routine consent items including the appointment of Doug Johnson to the police commission and the reappointment of John Loftus and Tara Oberg to the Sustainability Advisory Board.
Other consent and procedural actions reported in the recap included Resolution 16040 authorizing disposal of surplus equipment (an old backhoe) and approval to dispose of an old police squad car; three formal agreements described in the transcript with the (as named in the transcript) Hudson school district (ground maintenance, use-of-facilities and a birch greening agreement); purchase approval for a mini backhoe; and approval of claims and contract payments (registers A and B).

The meeting concluded with staff and council updates, a note that the council will consider an ordinance to regulate scooters, e-bikes and e-motos (state law applies), and a closed session on purchasing real property and permanent easements to be addressed at a future public meeting.
