Irvington council ratifies emergency contracts for sinkhole and sewer repairs

The council ratified a contract to Messercola Excavating Co., Inc. for $20,974 to repair a sinkhole at 76 Delmar Place. The Director of Public Works had declared an emergency and the administration sought quotes; Messercola submitted the lowest quote and the mayor concurred with the award.
Separately the council ratified a $33,050 emergency contract to Messercola Excavating to repair a collapsed sanitary sewer segment between 18th Avenue and 192 Munn Avenue. The resolution records that an initial quote of $21,800 was followed by additional work requiring $11,250 more, increasing the total to $33,050.
Both awards were ratified by the council and the Chief Financial Officer certified availability of funds as required in the resolutions.
