The Irvington Municipal Council on Aug. 12 ratified a series of emergency public-works contracts to address immediate threats to public health and safety.
The council ratified an emergency contract to Rich Tree Service, Inc. for up to $10,340 to remove two trees at 11 Webster Street and 28 Laventhal Avenue after a Public Works declaration of emergency. The Mayor concurred and the CFO certified funds.
Separately, the council ratified Your Way Construction to repair a road collapse at 3 Laventhal Avenue for an amount not to exceed $24,985; the work began with an initial $5,865 quote and required an additional $19,120 during repairs. The Director of Public Works declared the emergency and the Mayor concurred.
A third emergency resolution awarded Messercola Excavating Inc. a contract not to exceed $81,800 to repair three large sinkholes at 19th Avenue, Breckenridge & Eastern Parkway and Lincoln & Yale Avenue after a May 21, 2024 collapse. The work exceeded initial estimates once begun and the Mayor concurred with the emergency award; funds were certified by the CFO.
All three emergency resolutions were adopted and the minutes note that the public works director declared emergencies on public-health-and-safety grounds and that the administration obtained the necessary certifications of funds.
