The Irvington Municipal Council on Aug. 12 moved to adjourn final adoption of a bond ordinance that would appropriate $20,000,000 for capital improvements and authorize up to $19,000,000 in bonds or notes until the Township obtains approval from the New Jersey Local Finance Board.
The ordinance, introduced in draft form at the meeting, would fund a broad list of projects across multiple departments: police (vehicles, plate reader, jail and HVAC repairs), fire (personal protective gear, vehicles, training tower repairs), department of public works (16th Avenue garage renovations, construction at 406 Coit Street, vehicle and equipment purchases, electric vehicle charging stations), and general projects (park surfacing, road resurfacing, pool enclosure work, and other infrastructure). The ordinance text includes use of $2.5 million in American Rescue Funds and $432,000 in UEZ funds toward specified projects.
Council member Vick moved to adjourn final adoption until the Local Finance Board has reviewed the ordinance; Council scheduled consideration for Sept. 9, 2024. The minutes record the motion and the temporary postponement; a final roll-call adoption and formal bond issuance would occur only after the required state approvals and any further council action.
