Board recognizes student achievements, reviews HIB and enrollment reports; robotics team asks for waiver

Student Representatives Ashley Hecht and Victor Koziol reported on school activities, fundraisers, competitions and the upcoming spring musical.
Superintendent Jeanne Howe presented the SSDS Period 1 report and the district's HIB counts for Jan. 21–Feb. 18, 2025 (sample figures in the packet: Cozy Lake — 1 reported, 0 confirmed; Jefferson Township Middle School — 3 reported, 0 confirmed; Jefferson Township High School — 2 reported, 1 confirmed). Enrollment as of Jan. 31, 2025 was listed at 2,674 (Grades PreK: 294; K–5: 1,036; 6–8: 549; 9–12: 795), compared with 2,705 in Jan. 2024.
During public comment a robotics team member said the team reached the quarterfinals in a recent competition and asked the board to waive the 30-day notice requirement so the students could attend an upcoming event; Mrs. Perez, speaking as a parent, urged the board to reconsider. A SEPAG representative asked the board for data on enrollment versus case managers and questioned turnover in the special education case-management department; Superintendent Howe told the board the SEPAG items will be added to the Policy and Personnel agenda for follow up.
The board recorded no substantive votes tied solely to the public comments; follow-up was directed to the Policy and Personnel committee for the SEPAG concerns and to appropriate administrators for the robotics request.
