Jefferson Township board approves $6.4 million check register, authorizes playground grant application

The board approved motions K.1–K.14 on a motion by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Brown. The approved items included a December 2024 purchase order list totaling $356,456.59; a vendors’ bills release of $711,119.08 for payment on or after Jan. 22, 2025; a December 2024 check register totaling $6,408,348.18; and funds transfers of $177,959.30. The motions also certified compliance with applicable N.J. statutory and administrative rules and designated Rita Oroho Giacchi as the district’s Qualified Purchasing Agent and Public Agency Compliance Officer.
The board also adopted a resolution authorizing submission of a grant application to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for a Local Recreation Improvement Grant estimated at approximately $100,000 to add age-appropriate playground equipment at Jefferson Township Middle School and/or White Rock Elementary School to support an anticipated district reconfiguration. The resolution authorizes the board secretary and superintendent to execute the application and any resulting grant agreement.
Board members voted in the affirmative on the omnibus package; the motion was recorded as passed. The vote on the K motions was taken as a block during the Finance and Building Needs section of the agenda.
What happens next: the district will submit the grant application to the Department of Community Affairs; any award amount may be greater or less than the estimate and the board authorized accepting and executing the agreement if an award is received.
