Public works flags pump replacements, increased recycling costs and June delivery for new trash trucks

Public Works representative Santogrossi briefed the Carneys Point Township Committee on operational and capital needs during the Feb. 14 budget meeting.
Santogrossi proposed promoting an employee to mechanic (noting diesel experience) and said an earlier personnel change leaves two vacancies. He explained recycling expenses rose by $40,000 because the township recently began paying recycling fees it had not previously paid. For capital, he flagged a replacement pump at Boutown Creek and two aging pumps at Plant Road that should be replaced.
The committee reviewed quotes for two refuse trucks expected to arrive in June and discussed costs for automated trash cans (one can to be assigned per residence). CMFO C. Ehret told the committee that $58,000 previously budgeted for Fire Department flooring was not spent last year and recommended removing that appropriation from this year's capital list.
No formal capital appropriations were adopted at the meeting; staff will update capital lists as they prepare the draft budget.
