The Keansburg Borough Council on July 17 introduced two ordinances that set salary ranges for municipal classified and unclassified positions and scheduled a joint public hearing for Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 at 7 p.m.
Ordinance #1723 covers classified service positions and lists minimum and maximum ranges for a long roster of titles, with examples included in the ordinance text such as Account Clerk ($40,000–$95,000), Assistant Superintendent Water/Sewer ($45,000–$110,000), Code Enforcement Officer ($40,000–$110,000) and Building Inspector Trainee ($5,000–$25,000). The ordinance states it will be effective upon passage and publication according to law.
Ordinance #1724 establishes ranges for unclassified positions, citing sample ranges including Borough Manager ($40,000–$150,000), Superintendent of Public Works ($60,000–$150,000), Municipal Judge ($25,000–$70,000) and Council Member ($1,500–$10,000). Both ordinances include provisions that the Borough Council shall annually set actual salaries by resolution, and that the Borough Manager has authority to set starting salaries for new municipal employees and to increase existing salaries within the preset range; however, the Manager’s own salary may only be set or changed by council resolution.
Both ordinances were introduced by roll call and set for public hearing on Aug. 21, 2024 at 7 p.m. The introduction is not an adoption; final passage will be considered at the scheduled hearing.
