Residents press school heating and uniform-fee concerns; sewer markings and cell-tower status questioned

Residents used the public-participation portion of Carneys Point’s Jan. 21 meeting to raise several neighborhood concerns. Howard Cagle of Harding Highway reported that portions of the Lafayette/Persian school were without heat and told the committee that heaters had not worked since Jan. 7. Mayor Bomba replied that the township does not control the school system but said it would make an inquiry.
Leon Daniels of Waters Way said the school was charging students $75 for uniforms; Mayor Bomba suggested that Mr. Daniels raise the matter at a school board meeting and that the township could serve as a liaison if appropriate.
Joe Wright of Grandview Court complained that recent sewer utility mark-outs near his home were incorrect and that no corrective action had been taken. Mayor Bomba said the Sewerage Authority is aware of the issue and plans to run a camera through the lines when weather allows. Mr. Wright also asked about the status of an approved cell tower at the Sakima property; Mayor Bomba said the tower has been approved and is now with Verizon for next steps.
Township officials did not report that the township can directly remedy school operational decisions but noted they would inquire and suggested residents bring policy and fee questions to the school board. The meeting closed public participation after these comments and proceeded to executive session.
The committee did not take formal action on the public comments during the meeting; follow-up by the Sewerage Authority and inquiries with the school district were the only next steps recorded.
