Applicants ask Brooklawn Council for support for cannabis cultivator and manufacturing operation

Two local applicants asked the Brooklawn Borough Council on Tuesday for a letter of support to include with a pending state application for a cannabis cultivator and manufacturing operation.
Resident Danny Carbone, who identified his address as 158 Lilac Avenue, and Michael Glick of 111 Grand Drive appeared during the public comment period and described plans to operate at 310 Crescent Boulevard. "We're just looking for your support," Carbone said. Glick said the group is partnering with industry consultants, including a firm he called Can Delta, and a staffing service called Flower Hire to find a master grower and other personnel.
The applicants said they have not yet submitted the state license application because they need the municipal letter of support. "We're about two, three months away" from filing once the final local documentation is obtained, Glick said. Council members asked about the existing building, retrofit needs, lease term and security plans; the applicants said the facility was originally built for cultivation, would be retrofitted with HVAC and filtration, and would include 24-hour guards and extensive camera coverage.
Mayor Granstrom and council members said they could provide guidance on what to include in a local resolution or letter and asked the applicants to provide a draft copy in advance if council is to endorse the application. Council President McAdams asked that a copy of any resolution to be submitted to the state be provided to borough staff in advance for review.
The applicants also discussed financing and a phased build-out, saying they would start smaller if necessary and expand later depending on costs. The council did not vote on a support letter at the meeting; members asked the applicants to provide a formal draft and supporting materials for the next meeting so the council can consider a formal action.
Next steps: the applicants said they will supply requested materials and a draft resolution; council staff indicated they will review the submission before any formal vote.
