Cranford committee reviews more than $10 million in 2026 capital requests, sets priorities

Business Administrator/CFO Lavona Patterson reviewed the Township’s 2026 capital budget requests, which total more than $10 million and cover consulting engineering work, street projects, parks, and equipment needs.
Patterson identified several priorities for further review: Richmond Avenue improvements, Sunny Acres Park work, design for Hillside Avenue and consulting engineering projects. She recommended removing the OEM storage building proposal from 2026 and postponing purchase of an additional Fire Department stretcher system for a year. The committee discussed obtaining an additional quote for Fire Department air conditioning and moving forward with two new Public Works trucks.
Committee members also discussed pursuing grants to fund lighting at the Roundhouse, prioritizing Community Center improvements, advancing audio improvements for TV35, and approving the Police Department’s fingerprinting equipment, RRFBs (rectangular rapid flashing beacons), and a dispatch laptop replacement for the Fire Department. Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty requested that the capital requests list be updated to reflect the committee’s feedback before the official meeting.
No formal budget vote was taken at the workshop; the committee’s guidance will be reflected in a revised list for consideration at the upcoming Official Meeting.
