At the Aug. 5 work session Councilmember Ken Biddick reported a failed meter at Reeds Hotel that prompted a billing dispute and said the borough has seen other meter failures.
"The contractor is taking responsibility and has agreed to replace 100% of the Borough's meters," Biddick said. He added that it is not yet known "if there has been any revenue lost because of it." Biddick reminded the council that the borough is required to operate the water and sewer system on a self-liquidating basis.
Biddick said the contractor has stepped in to read meters after being put on notice about faulty units. He said he plans to work with the borough engineer to redesign structure so outstanding debt could be removed without incurring new debt and to ensure equitable billing so heavier users pay more.
No corrective ordinance or formal financial action was adopted at the Aug. 5 work session; councilmembers discussed the issue and next steps for engineering and billing review.
