Residents tell Stone Harbor council 112th Street beach access is dangerously steep; administrator says he is working on it

Two residents urged the Stone Harbor Mayor and Council on Aug. 19 to address a hazardous beach access at 112th Street, saying the stairway is “very steep and dangerous” and that they have not received an adequate response from borough officials.
Kathryn Witback, speaking with her husband Ernest at the public‑comment period, said the access point at 112th Street presents a safety risk and asked the council to take action. Administrator Clark replied that he is looking into the issue and will provide an update on the status once he has more information.
Resident Ted Kesner also spoke during public comment, warning that hurricane-driven storms can cause beach erosion and telling the council it is unlikely federal funding will cover all needs. Kesner urged the borough to be proactive in pursuing assistance and maintaining its beaches.
Mayor Timothy J. Carney opened public comment and asked Administrator Clark for a status report during the meeting; no formal motion or vote was recorded on the matter. The council took no immediate public action during the meeting beyond directing that the administrator follow up and report back.
The meeting record shows these comments were made during the public‑comment portion of the regular session. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2, 2025, when council business including several introduced ordinances will be considered further.
