Stone Harbor council to consider ordinance renaming and reorganizing Public Works

At the Aug. 5 work session, Councilmember Bunny Parzych outlined a proposed ordinance to restructure the borough's public works operations.
"The name of the Department will be changed to the 'Department of Public Works and Public Utilities,'" Parzych said, and described three supervisory divisions to cover (1) solid waste, beach and streets; (2) maintenance of buildings, grounds, safety and special events; and (3) water and sewer systems, sanitary sewer collection, and stormwater management. She said clerical support and foremen would also be assigned to the new structure.
Director Francisco Tirado, present to discuss the plan, said the changes will "make the department more efficient" and that the operation is large and continuous: "we can do better," he said.
Parzych said the first reading of the ordinance is scheduled for Aug. 19, 2025. She also announced, in her capacity as Planning Board liaison, that a variance application by Stone Harbor Pizza Pub is scheduled for the Planning Board on Aug. 11 at 5:00 p.m.
The council did not adopt the ordinance at the Aug. 5 session; the proposal was presented for council review and a first reading was scheduled.
