Stone Harbor council hears dredging, wildlife and downtown tree updates; Shade Tree Committee to be re-engaged

Casper said data collection—such as measuring water depths—is the first step that determines where dredging is needed and noted that dredging permits are held by the borough. She also summarized recent wildlife observations at Stone Harbor Point and announced upcoming events including the Reeds Fundraising Gala on July 20 and the Yacht Club–sponsored Festival of Lights parade. Casper said the borough’s 10th annual Green Fair had been a great success and thanked participating vendors, the Police Department and Public Works for their support.
Councilmember Jennifer Gensemer asked which committee is responsible for the trees in the downtown business district. Casper identified the Shade Tree Committee as responsible but said the group has not been meeting regularly; she said she would reach out to the committee chair to restart discussions about possible replacement plantings, with preliminary talks suggested for the fall.
No permits or specific dredging timelines were announced at the work session, and Casper did not provide cost estimates for dredging or tree replacement.
