The Stone Harbor Borough Council voted July 15 to authorize the use of body boards at the 112th Street beach over objections raised during public comment.
Resident Geoff Woolery told the council that the prior prohibition on body boards at that beach had historic reasons and urged the council to consider local demographics and delay any change until next season. "There are many elderly people who go to these beaches because they do not allow body boards," Woolery said, and he argued the change should wait because the community is already halfway through the season.
Councilmember Jennifer Gensemer moved the resolution and Councilmember Robin Casper seconded. The recorded vote on Resolution 2025-S-198 was: Frank Dallahan Yes; Victor Foschini Yes; Bunny Parzych Yes; Robin Casper No; Jennifer Gensemer Yes; Ken Biddick Yes. The resolution passed.
Councilmember Casper had previously requested that the body-board resolution be removed from the consent agenda so it could be considered separately; the record shows the council granted that request before taking the separate vote.
