Several local residents urged Clinton City Council to ensure the planning process is completed before acting on a proposed rezoning on Davidson Street and surrounding blocks.
Steuart Owens told council he was not there to argue for or against the rezoning but to express concern that the planning commission had not had the opportunity to review the residential portion of the application, which nonetheless appeared on the council agenda. Jeff Dwit, a nearby resident, said the applicant—a developer he identified as based in Washington, D.C.—resubmitted an application to rezone multiple parcels from R1 to R2 and that the developer’s last sketch was not to scale and did not accurately show property boundaries. He said the applicant proposed about 25 dwelling units on roughly 3.1 acres and urged council to hold the item until the developer makes a stronger case.
In response, council moved to table the first-reading zoning ordinance until the planning commission meets and provides the appropriate review; the motion to table passed by voice vote.
The item will return after the planning commission’s review.
