Conservation Commission assigns site-visit duties, plans invasive-species outreach and NRI review

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Moultonborough Conservation Commission reallocated permit-site responsibilities and set several near-term outreach and review actions.
Commissioners assigned wetland site visits to Marie Samaha, Steve King and Cornelia Schneider, while Max Hoene and Steve King were assigned shoreland site visits. Max was tasked to ask whether the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) will include ConCom site-visit reports in the final permit approval documents mailed to applicants. Brian Sanford will maintain and update the commission’s application spreadsheet; site-visit sheets submitted to DES should also be CC’d to Sanford for filing, the commission recorded.
The commission agreed to pursue several community outreach and technical items: Anni Jakobsen is working on an invasive-plant spring presentation; a work group led by Heritage Commission Chair Cristina Ashjian will meet in January to draft content for roughly five MFCA Taking Action Wildlife Grant educational signs for spring installation; Steve King will contact the Castle Shore Road association about a stormwater problem; and Anni reported a composting initiative meeting is scheduled for Jan. 28 with Matt Rose and five town coordinators to reduce landfill volume.
Ongoing items noted for future agendas include an anticipated Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) draft expected from FB Environmental around Jan. 16 for ConCom comment and a potential conservation easement for Mud Pond. Squam Lakes Conservation Society has requested easement shape files; Bill Gassman will contact Emily Landy to follow up. The Board of Selectmen will hold public hearings Jan. 13 at 5:00 p.m. regarding possible acquisition of the CruCon building at 81 Whittier Highway.
The minutes record that the Cyanobacteria Committee submitted a 2025 activity report and that committee membership expanded to include Erik Swenson, bringing the active membership to six and roughly 40–50 watchers monitoring conditions.
