At their Jan. 6 meeting, the Town of Moultonborough Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 to place a warrant article on the March 14, 2026 Town Meeting to fund a three-site, two-system simulcast radio upgrade intended to achieve roughly 99% public-safety radio coverage.
Selectman Karel A. Crawford moved to approve quote QTE016900 for the project at a total cost of $375,445, with $267,000 to come from the Communications Technology Capital Reserve Fund (CRF 138) and the remaining $108,445 to be raised by taxation; Selectman James F. Gray seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The motion also waived competitive bidding on the basis that the purchase is a state bid and sole-source award to Ossipee Mountain Electronics, described in the motion as the current local supplier providing ongoing service and support for police radio communications. The board directed the Town Administrator to place the article on the Town Warrant and noted that no contract may be executed until after voter approval at Town Meeting.
The board and staff said the upgrade’s goal is to eliminate dead spots and reach approximately 99% coverage for police and fire communications across town. Because the expense requires legislative approval, the Selectmen did not authorize any pre-election contract execution.
The vote was 5-0 in favor. The motion was made by Selectman Karel A. Crawford and seconded by Selectman James F. Gray.
The next step is consideration and a vote by Moultonborough voters at the March 14, 2026 Town Meeting. If approved, the town will finalize contracting and project scheduling; if not approved, the town will not sign a contract as a result of this action.
