The Rhinebeck Union Free School District board on April 22 voted to appoint Michael Burke as the district's next superintendent of schools under the terms of a presented employment agreement.
Board members said Burke brings 25 years of public-education experience, including nine years as superintendent in Crest Hill, New Jersey, and recognition as Bergen County Superintendent of the Year in 2022. Administrators said Burke spent the day meeting staff and touring district neighborhoods and schools ahead of the board vote; a meet-and-greet was scheduled immediately following the meeting.
Board remarks praised Burke's interpersonal skills and fit with the community profile developed during the search. "Mister Burke is affable, engaging, strong, and warmhearted, and we believe he fully aligns with the profile that was developed by our Rhinebeck community," a board official said during the appointment discussion.
The board approved the appointment by voice vote; all trustees present supported the resolution. The appointment will take effect under the terms of the employment agreement adopted at the meeting.
