Justine Simaro was elected council president at the Borough of Bridgeville’s meeting after nominations were closed and a voice vote carried the motion. The council then elected a vice president by voice vote.
The council approved a slate of appointments to municipal boards and commissions. Joseph Shabala was appointed to the Zoning Hearing Board (term to expire the first Monday of January 2031). Joe Paulia and Karen Taylor were appointed to the Bridgeville Civil Service Commission (terms to expire the first Monday of January 2032); Zach Brily and Richard Rufinac were appointed as alternate civil service commissioners with the same expiration date. Jen Breilmire was appointed to the Shade Tree Commission (term to expire the first Monday of January 2031). Deb Kissimo was named vacancy board chairman with a term through the first Monday of January 2028.
Council also authorized advertisement of the 2026 meeting schedule — regular council meetings on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., the Parking Authority on the third Monday, and the Planning Commission on the fourth Monday — and approved the Dec. 8, 2025 meeting minutes.
Why it matters: The reorganized leadership and new committee rosters shape the council’s agenda-setting and oversight for the coming year and determine who will represent Bridgeville on regional bodies and internal committees.
What’s next: Committee assignments and more detailed operational rosters will be provided at the February council meeting as members finalize committee memberships.
