The Lakewood Board of Education approved its consent agenda on Nov. 13, 2024, formalizing a set of contracts, purchases and personnel actions presented by the superintendent and business administrator.
The board certified bills and payroll and approved the Warrant Account bills list for Nov. 13 ($1,559,303.51), a Supplemental Warrant ($11,676,396.68) and the Cafeteria Account ($460,644.19). Business Administrator and Board Secretary Kevin Campbell read the financial items before the board voted to approve the consent agenda.
Major procurement items approved under the consent agenda included a contract with Troller Electric, LLC to remove and replace a nonfunctional 110 kW generator at Oak Street School for $248,347.30 and a contract with City Peak Construction for exterior renovation of the district-owned property at 521 Princeton Ave. totaling $249,619.20. The agenda also recorded several transportation RFQ awards for specific routes and vendors with per-diem rates, and the renewal of National Vision Administrators insurance coverage at a listed rate of $13.54 per enrolled staff member per month (903 staff; $146,719.44 annualized subject to enrollment adjustments).
On a reconciliation report for custodial, maintenance and grounds services the administration presented amounts owed by Aramark: $45,434.64 for 2022/23 and $140,071.55 for 2023/24. The recommendation recorded in the agenda was to forgive the 2022/23 reconciliation in full and forgive $70,000 of the 2023/24 amount, leaving Aramark to remit $70,071.55 to the district; the board approved that recommendation as part of the consent agenda.
The superintendent’s agenda included the award of a consulting contract to Robert S. Finger for business-office consulting through June 30, 2025, not to exceed $40,000, and a number of curriculum, instructional and software purchases, among them Edmentum courseware for $35,930 and an iBlock curriculum purchase for after‑school clubs not to exceed $75,000. Several professional-development and training opportunities were approved as presented in the agenda.
Personnel actions approved included certified resignations and retirements (for example, a teacher resignation effective Dec. 31, 2024, and a retirement effective Feb. 1, 2025), leaves of absence, transfers and interim assignments. Notably, Marisa Kleber was approved to serve as Interim Principal at Piner School effective Dec. 2, 2024. The consent agenda also listed multiple paraprofessional and after-school staffing appointments and stipends, subject to background checks and required documentation.
The meeting opened with a motion by Heriberto Rodriguez to enter executive session, seconded by Chanina Nakdimen; the board later returned to public session and, after completing the agenda, adjourned at 8:35 p.m. by a motion from Shlomo Stern, seconded by Heriberto Rodriguez.
The minutes and the certified Business Administrator/Board Secretary documentation accompany the agenda and were entered into the record; several items note that payments, placements or contracts remain subject to counsel review, IE P compliance, or funding availability as stated in the agenda materials.
