On Aug. 21 the Lakewood Board of Education approved a broad superintendent personnel agenda that included certified and non‑certified staff appointments, leaves of absence, transfers and salary adjustments for the 2024–25 school year.
Certified staff actions included resignations and multiple leaves of absence for maternity and medical reasons with start and return dates recorded in the minutes; transfers and new hires were approved (examples: Thomas Wilson, orchestra/recording arts teacher at LHS effective Oct. 8; Robert T. Wood, social studies teacher; Kelly Howlett, LMS guidance counselor effective Oct. 15). Salary step and degree‑lane adjustments for named teachers were recorded with effective dates of Sept. 1. Several positions and appointments are noted as contingent on required criminal‑history/fingerprint clearance.
Non‑certified actions included transfers and reassignments of dozens of paraprofessionals among LECC campuses, new paraprofessional and cafeteria aide appointments with hourly rates, and substitute paraprofessional lists. Many paraprofessional reassignments were to align program assignments for preschool sites with no additional cost to the district, per the agenda.
All personnel items were approved as consent agenda items; the agenda repeatedly notes that new employees must supply required new‑hire documentation three business days before start dates. The minutes do not record extended public discussion or challenges to the personnel slate.
Next steps: Human Resources will process onboarding for newly approved hires, confirm clearances where required, and finalize payroll and stipend processing per listed accounts.
