The Lakewood Board of Education on Jan. 22 approved a resolution authorizing the district to seek New Jersey Department of Education approval to dispose of a portion of district land identified as Block 209, Lot 1.01 and to amend the district’s Long Range Facilities Plan accordingly.
The board’s resolution directs the district architect/engineer to submit the required NJDOE application under N.J.A.C. 6A:26-7.4 and authorizes the district to advertise the parcel for public sale once state approval and LRFP amendment are granted. The action was presented under the superintendent’s agenda and carried as part of the consent approvals.
Superintendent Laura A. Winters described the procedural steps required by state rules; the board also approved retaining consultants to support the disposition process. The board approved El Associates to prepare and submit the NJDOE application and LRFP amendment for $6,000, engaged Gagliano Appraisal LLC for a market-value appraisal ($5,500) and RWC Surveying to prepare a partial boundary survey ($4,000 plus $800 for corner settings).
The resolution cites statutory authority for public sale pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:20-5 and the regulatory requirement for NJDOE review at N.J.A.C. 6A:26-7.4. Board members noted the approvals are contingent on NJDOE sign-off; the board did not set a listing price or timetable for sale and did not authorize any transfer pending state approval.
The board’s motion carried as part of the superintendent agenda vote. Next steps listed by administration are submission of the application, completion of the appraisal and survey, and processing the LRFP amendment for NJDOE review. The board did not take public comment on a sale price or buyer at the meeting.
The district certification accompanying the minutes notes the actions authorized at the meeting are administrative steps required before any public sale and that approval from the NJDOE is required before advertising the property.
