Lockport council approves Trunk-or-Treat street closure; mayor raises sewer pump clog concerns

The Lockport Town Council on Oct. 15 approved a request from Jenny Bordelon to close portions of Highway/streets near Pelican Fuel for a Trunk-or-Treat event on Oct. 25, 2024. Councilman Gary Acosta made the motion to allow the closure, Councilman Tyler Detillier seconded it, and the council approved the request unanimously.
Police Chief David Harrelson reported that the town’s Spook at the Park event was canceled due to low participation. Alan Badeaux informed the council of a Veterans event planned for Nov. 9 at the town park.
Mayor Barry Plaisance also raised an operational sewer issue, reporting that crews had to remove and clean the Comeaux Drive lift-station pump four times in the prior week because items that should not be flushed (identified as flushable wipes in the discussion) were clogging pumps. Councilmembers, including Gary Acosta, reiterated concerns about inappropriate items being flushed and asked residents to report problem areas to Town Hall.
Resident Gloria Pruitt raised a separate local nuisance regarding tires near her home; council agreed to note the concern. The council closed its business and scheduled its next regular meeting for Nov. 19, 2024.
