The Town of McBee council voted unanimously on Jan. 6, 2026, to remove the job title "Captain of Narcotics" and to add a new position, "Captain of Patrol," designating Officer Brandon Norris to fill the post.
Councilman Robbie Liles made the motion to remove the narcotics captain position; it was seconded by Councilman Ricky Peoples and approved by the four members present. After the executive session, Mayor Glenn Odom said the town clerk, Kylee Watts, would "have to look at COBRA on the insurance" and directed the police chief to send a letter to the current Captain of Narcotics. No action was taken during the executive session, Odom said.
James Linton moved the council add the Captain of Patrol post and name Officer Brandon Norris to the role; Robbie Liles seconded that motion. Liles said he thought "it's one of the best opportunities we could find to have a professional officer that's field trained plus an education to back it all up. He thinks it will be a good deal for the Town of McBee." The motions carried "all in favor."
Mayor Odom also instructed Liles to call a meeting with Police Chief Knight and Captain Norris to discuss overtime, the chief's new hours and expectations about congregating at the office. The council took no further formal action on personnel at the meeting and then adjourned.
The reorganization was handled during the regular meeting after a brief executive session on police personnel; the transcript records the decisions but does not include discussion of budgetary impacts, salary changes, or timing for the transition, which were described as follow-up items for staff to address.
