Peter Bizaid, president of the Danbury City Council, opened a public hearing on proposed ordinances and invited public comment on a draft ordinance governing massage-therapy establishments.
Jeff Harold of 18 Foster Street told the council he opposes the proposal. "I just feel that it's an overreach," Harold said, adding later that the measure looks like "overregulation." He said a massage therapist friend moved her practice out of Danbury into Brookfield because of perceived burdens and that house-call therapists operate in town and could be affected.
Harold said the rules in the draft could chase small practitioners out of Danbury and reduce local services. "I'm just not sure it's needed," he said.
Bizaid recorded that no one else wished to speak on the item; the council did not debate or vote on the measure at the hearing. The public hearing covered multiple proposed ordinances and is the council's opportunity to gather comments before any formal action is scheduled.
