McBee mayor says town submitted plans for splash pad and four pickleball courts; school track may revert to town

Mayor Glenn Odom told the council the town has submitted plans to pursue state earmark or grant funding for recreation improvements, including a children's splash pad and plans for four pickleball courts.
"I turned in a set of plans for a children's splashpad and it will look really nice. Then I also turned in plans for 4 pickleball courts," Odom said, adding that the school district indicated it will no longer use the Rec-field track and that control of that space would return to the town for other uses.
Councilman Ricky Peoples reported strong youth participation in spring recreation programs: "We have 130-140 signed up for Rec Baseball & Softball," and noted the planned Opening Day set for March 7 had to be moved because no other town was ready to start on that date.
Odom said he discussed grant prospects with Cody Mitchell and Senator Blackmon and hopes the town will receive funding; no awards or approvals had been confirmed at the time of the meeting. The council did not vote on any recreation funding or capital projects at this session.
