Board asks attorney to draft ordinance to extend trustee terms to four years and approves routine appointments

At the June 8 meeting the Edgewater board asked its attorney to draft ordinance language to move trustee terms from two years to four years and the board made routine reappointments and approved the consent agenda.

Blanca, the board attorney, told trustees they would need a motion for her to draft language and that any draft would return to the board for approval before going to city council. "You would need a motion for to have me draft the language, and then I would bring the draft language at the next meeting," Blanca said. Trustees said many other elected or appointed seats already operate on four‑year cycles, and several members expressed a preference for extending terms to reduce turnover.

Separately, trustees voted to reappoint several trustees whose terms are expiring and approved the consent agenda without discussion. Board staff said they will forward trustee renewals to the city for ratification where required and will schedule the proposed ordinance draft on a future agenda for board review.

Why it matters: a move from two‑year to four‑year trustee terms would change the board’s governance cadence and timing of appointments; the board has not yet adopted ordinance language and directed the attorney to prepare a draft for future action.
