Superintendent says 2024–25 school year off to a strong start; highlights MeasureX projects

Simi Valley Unified’s superintendent told the board the 2024–25 school year opened strongly and credited district staff, students and community partners for a smooth start.
“We have the 2024–25 school year off to a great start,” the superintendent said, noting that the district’s youngest learners in transitional kindergarten (TK) number 625 across 32 classrooms. The superintendent highlighted the launch of Arroyo Dual Language Academy and the district’s new professional learning coaches in elementary schools.
On facilities, the superintendent said MeasureX-funded work produced a new kitchen at Simi Valley High School and that the original cafeteria has been demolished to make way for a multipurpose facility that will include a performing arts center and a science wing. The district plans modernization of remaining campuses through summer 2026 and described the effort as the closest to building “a brand new school.”
The superintendent also acknowledged the district’s response to a recent student death at Royal High School and thanked student support services, counselors and administrators for quickly mobilizing support for students and staff.
Board members and trustees added their own school‑visit observations, noted upcoming ribbon cuttings and community partnerships such as the opening of a local Gigi’s Playhouse location.
