Hillsdale library director reports dip in circulation during carpet work, readying summer reading program

At the May 4 meeting of the Hillsdale Community Library Board of Trustees, Library Director Rebekah Dobski reported a modest decline in circulation after the library was closed for carpet replacement and said staff are prepared for the upcoming summer reading program.
Dobski told trustees that the temporary closure for carpeting contributed to the dip in circulation and that staff have rearranged some collections to offset operational disruption. She said the meeting-room rental program is generating revenue as expected, though one large payment remains in process.
The board also received a communication from the Friends of the Library saying the group is "struggling to get engagement" and plans to begin a letter drive to improve outreach. President George Allen said he will prepare the director's annual evaluation this month and present it at the next meeting. The board set its next meeting for June 1, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Trustees approved routine agenda and minutes items and adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
