The City of South Miami Historic Preservation Board welcomed new member Rosado and used the remainder of its meeting to confirm schedule expectations and revive earlier conversations about the Silver Martin Building and pursuing grants for historic-property work.
Staff member Lourdes opened the item and introduced Rosado, saying, “I would like to welcome a new, historic preservation board member, mister Rosado.” Rosado described himself as a long-time local resident with professional experience working for municipal contractors: “I've been a 15 year resident of South Miami…most recently, Im now working for a company called SFM Services,” he said.
Board members each offered short backgrounds: one member said they are an attorney appointed under the city ordinance; another (Julio) said he is a registered architect and has served about three to four years; another described more than 15 years in real estate and a master’s degree in art history.
On scheduling, staff said the board meets monthly on the fourth Monday except June and that a December meeting is planned for Dec. 30 only if applicants or board members submit items at least three weeks in advance. The chair encouraged members to send items to staff ahead of time.
The chair raised the board's prior discussion of possible oversight of the Silver Martin Building near City Hall and said the topic had appeared in the Sunset Place redevelopment RFP; the chair suggested the board review whether it has a role in oversight or designation. The chair also said the board had discussed pursuing grants for historic-property designation in past years and believed a recent grant deadline had been missed, recommending the board revisit grant opportunities in January.
The meeting ended with the chair adjourning and holiday well-wishes to members.
Provenance: The welcome, member introductions, discussion of scheduling, and Silver Martin Building comments are recorded in the board's closing agenda items.
