Commission hears community updates; SHHP renames program and Act 711 rules to be posted

At the Jan. 14 meeting staff and commissioners shared several announcements and community members offered updates and offers of assistance.
Julie Fitch said Dr. DeAnn Gruber had received links for each region's parish health unit in response to prior discussions about rural health access. Dr. Samuel Burgess announced that the SHHP program had updated its name to the 'STI/HIV/Hepatitis Program,' removing the prior 'STD' terminology to reduce stigmatizing language. Dr. Burgess also said Act 711 rules would be posted for public comment beginning Jan. 20 for a 35-day comment period.
In public comment, Shirley Lolis of Metro Health in Baton Rouge thanked the commission and offered Metro Health's support. Dana Gray reported new funding opportunities for primary care HIV prevention and said the AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) is working with sites to help them access that funding. Vatsana Chanthala announced a 24/7 HIV clinician hotline for Louisiana clinicians (504-538-0945) that connects callers to an infectious-disease clinician at UMC. A speaker listed as Dietz invited nominations for a 10-week paid LCCH Speakers Bureau training; Jenny Holl promoted a Jan. 24 'Get Louid Louisiana' meeting; Darlene Anderson, quality manager for SHHP, announced a statewide clinical quality improvement meeting on Jan. 16 from 9–11 AM.
The commission noted the next meeting for March 11, 2025, and adjourned at 10:43 AM.
