The Louisiana Commission on HIV and Hepatitis C Education, Prevention, and Treatment met Nov. 12 in New Orleans but did not have a quorum, so members did not hold scheduled votes or elections.
Aisha McKenzie, senior strategic advisor for the Louisiana Department of Health and staff to the Commission, reported 12 members were present and that a quorum was not met, preventing a vote to approve multiple sets of past meeting minutes and blocking action on Membership Committee recommendations to forward nominees for appointment. The minutes listed minutes from meetings including Oct. 8, 2024; July 9, 2024; and several earlier dates that were not approved because of the procedural deficit.
Commission leadership matters were also deferred. The panel did not hold 2025 elections due to the lack of quorum; Dr. Tavell Kindall said she is willing to continue serving as acting chair and Mitchell Handrich said he is willing to remain as acting vice chair until elections can be scheduled and a quorum achieved.
Because formal votes could not be taken, the Commission recorded no official changes to membership or leadership at the meeting. The group set its next hybrid meeting for Jan. 14, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
DeAnn Gruber moved to adjourn the meeting; Dr. Phillip Griffin seconded, and the meeting concluded at 9:55 AM.
