Middleville planning staff presented the draft capital improvement plan for the upcoming budget year and the Planning Commission voted to recommend it to the village council.
Mr. Stolenberg, presenting the plan, said pedestrian projects were a priority and identified a sidewalk gap on Greenwood and Bender to be added to the CIP. "Filling the sidewalk gap on Greenwood and Bender there," he said, and noted the village will inventory sidewalks to identify and budget to fill gaps over time.
Commissioners raised related items including adding streetlights in portions of Misty Ridge that currently have none, planned mill/repair work in multiple neighborhoods and parks funding (including a restroom at Kelvin Hill in 2029). Staff said the village submitted a grant application related to two bridge structures and is awaiting tribal consultation on federal/state fund approvals; the village previously committed $200,000 as its share toward bridge work.
Why it matters: The CIP recommendation sets priorities that affect pedestrian safety, neighborhood lighting, road maintenance and park access. Commissioners emphasized that sidewalk and traffic-calming measures may require coordination with council and public works and budgeting over multiple years.
