The Middleville Village Council approved a one‑time $34,990 proposal on April 28 to migrate the village’s primary finance and accounting software (BSNA) from an on‑premise server to the vendor’s cloud service.
Finance staff told the council that BSNA is phasing out on‑premise support and that cloud migration reduces the need to maintain local server hardware and the recurring refresh cycle. Staff estimated a six‑to‑nine‑month implementation window and said the village expects the system to be in place for the 2026 budget/audit cycle.
Councilors asked about alternatives; staff said other vendors exist but that many Michigan municipalities use BSNA and the village has existing reports and intermunicipal data sharing set up through the product. Supporters said cloud services include multi‑factor authentication and other security features; staff said the migration would reduce certain local attack surfaces and centralize security updates.
The council approved the proposal by roll call. The motion includes a staff commitment to coordinate the implementation schedule and report back on transition milestones.
