The resolution states that S-1836 would permit conversions and density changes that bypass municipal planning, reduce local parking requirements near transit, permit certain conversions by religious and nonprofit organizations and otherwise undermine the master-plan process under the Municipal Land Use Law. The Committee said municipalities spend substantial resources to prepare master plans and should retain local autonomy over density, traffic and public-safety considerations.
The resolution cites recent statutory changes (A-4/S-50, 2024) and directs that copies be sent to the county’s state legislators, the governor and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
Committee members did not record formal dissent in the minutes; the resolution was adopted by unanimous consent along with other consent items.
