Winfield Committee appoints Dominick Ciano to volunteer fire department, approves $25,450 in bills and hears parking safety concerns

The appointment was adopted by motion of Commissioner Adam Koomer and seconded by Commissioner Joseph P. Byrne; all members present — Mayor Robert Reilly, Commissioner Koomer and Commissioner Byrne — voted in the affirmative.
The committee also approved payment of municipal bills totaling $25,450.28 and accepted requisitions amounting to $400 (including $250 for public defender services and $150 for interpreter services). Commissioner Koomer moved and Commissioner Byrne seconded the measures, which passed unanimously.
During the citizen forum, resident James Hyman asked whether cones would remain in front of the police department by the yellow lines to preserve sight lines and parking safety. WPD Chief Mazzarella replied, "yes, for safety." Hyman noted that one family has four cars and that parking is limited; Chief Mazzarella reiterated the cones are intended to improve visibility when exiting the lot. Resident Brenda Bersey said she was "almost hit by another vehicle coming out of the lot." Mayor Robert Reilly told attendees that anyone with additional questions could speak with Chief Mazzarella after the meeting.
The committee opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.; Mayor Robert Reilly read the public notice required by the Open Public Meetings Act (NJSA 10:4-6 et seq.), led a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, and the meeting was adjourned at 7:12 p.m. The acting township clerk recorded attendance and proceedings.
No further departmental reports or communications were presented at the meeting. The new firefighter appointment takes effect after the candidate completes the stated background and medical clearances.
