Council approves one facade grant, denies two incomplete applications

University City council approved the Economic Development Sales Tax board's recommendations on fiscal‑year‑26 facade improvement applications, voting to grant Classic Coin Laundry up to $15,000 for façade work and to deny two incomplete applications for properties at 6307/6309 Delmar.
Becky Aldon, interim planning and zoning director, told the council the board received three applications and recommended funding for Classic Coin Laundry at 7200 Ballston Ave., not to exceed $15,000, while recommending denial of the two Delmar submissions because their applications were incomplete and because the property owner of a previously funded site (the former 3 Kings building) has not demonstrated sufficient progress following earlier public funding. The mayor and councilmembers said they were reluctant to use public funds on a property that has not shown redevelopment progress.
Councilmember Brenner moved to approve staff's recommendations; Councilmember Fuller seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote.
What this means: one small storefront will receive matching facade funds intended to encourage rehabilitation and economic activity; two other applicants must correct deficiencies in their applications or show additional progress before being reconsidered.
