Edgewater council ratifies police and firefighter MOUs, approves midyear pay increase and a $35,000 settlement

The Edgewater City Council on March 3 voted to ratify two collective bargaining agreements and to approve a midyear pay adjustment for eligible city employees.

Council ratified the Coastal Florida Police Benevolent Association memorandum of agreement for fiscal year 2024‑25, which includes a negotiated 2% pay increase and adjustments to minimum and maximum pay ranges. Staff said the agreement had already been ratified by the union and recommended council authorization for the mayor to execute the agreement.

The council then ratified the Edgewater Professional Firefighters, International Association of Firefighters Local 4575 memorandum of agreement for fiscal 2024‑25 with comparable wage adjustments.

Separately, the council approved a midyear adjustment for general management and non‑management employees (excluding the interim city manager), increasing the minimum pay range by 1% and the maximum pay range by 2%; staff said the increases become effective at the beginning of the first full pay cycle after council approval and are subject to completion of new‑hire probation where applicable.

On a separate agenda item, council authorized the city insurance company to settle a pre‑suit claim arising from a May 28, 2022 collision between a city ambulance and another vehicle. Staff reported the claimant had reduced its demand to $40,000 and the insurer recommended a $35,000 settlement; council approved that authorization.

Votes on the ratifications, wage adjustments and the settlement were recorded by roll call and carried.
