Commission continues review of 624 University Drive amid questions about unit counts and displacement

The commission on June 22 continued consideration of a use permit, architectural control, major subdivision and below‑market‑rate housing agreement for 624 University Drive after a member of the public urged postponement and asked whether recent conversions had displaced residents. Staff said the proposal would demolish four existing dwelling units and construct six new dwelling units; the commission agreed to continue the item to allow fuller review and response to public concerns.
Peter Lenhart, who joined the meeting by phone and said he had been displaced by prior changes to nearby properties, asked for a continuation and questioned how six units would improve housing and mitigate displacement. “I’m not sure how 6 units translates into improving housing or … mitigate or reduce displacement,” he said. Commissioners moved to continue the item; the motion passed 5–0.
