The University City City Council on Feb. 23 adopted Resolution 2026-01, a statement reaffirming “the indispensable role of municipal government” and decrying recent state and federal actions the sponsor said hamper local authority.
Council member Timon introduced the resolution and summarized its intent, saying the measure was “functional and structural” and intended to recommit the council to core municipal functions. In his remarks he said the resolution responds to actions that “directly obstruct University City from effectively serving” by affecting infrastructure, housing and public safety and by threatening services such as the public library.
The resolution text, the introducer said, also raised concerns about threats to rights, climate-policy rollbacks and instances of rhetoric described in the text as racist, antisemitic and homophobic. The sponsor urged colleagues and the public to read the full resolution online for the complete language.
Mayor Crowe called for questions; none were raised. Council member Timon moved adoption; Council member Fuller seconded. The council adopted the resolution by voice vote.
The resolution is declaratory in nature; it expresses the council’s position and does not itself change local ordinance or funding levels.
