Council approved a three‑year memorandum of understanding with SEIU Maintenance and Clerical (item 26) on the consent calendar after multiple union representatives described the bargaining process and urged the city to negotiate remaining contracts in public.
That approval followed a series of public comments from bargaining team members and chapter leaders who told the council the unit had reached a tentative agreement without compromising priority benefits. Rebecca Webb (speaker 29), chapter president for the clerical chapter, described concessions secured after a multi‑day negotiation and said members voted to ratify the agreement with a supermajority.
Sherry Jackson, chief steward for the maintenance and clerical chapter (speaker 30), thanked city staff and the bargaining team, described the negotiation as professional and said she supported ratification. Other bargaining team members and rank‑and‑file members spoke to the human impact of the agreement and urged the council to complete remaining contract talks, including coordinated bargaining that would allow members across units to negotiate aligned terms.
Mayor Jesse Adeghen and council members publicly acknowledged the work of staff and union negotiators and said they were committed to finishing work on the remaining contracts that are soon to expire. The MOU for the maintenance and clerical unit was included in the consent calendar as presented and passed on a roll call vote.
What’s next: staff will process the ratification and update Human Resources and payroll to implement the contract terms and follow up with council and labor leaders on the remaining bargaining units.
