Alameda County central IT provided a hands‑on SharePoint demonstration during the Jan. 9 meeting, walking commissioners through guest invitations, the 4‑digit authentication code process for non‑county accounts, upload and drag‑and‑drop operations, version history, and the recycle bin restore process.
"My name is Sandra DeNardi, and I work in the central IT department here at Alameda County... My side role is business administrator for SharePoint," said Sandra DeNardi, who ran the demonstration and offered to record a video walkthrough for commissioners to use later.
DeNardi showed how guests should save the invitation email (the SharePoint link is required for non‑county email addresses), enter a short code issued via email, and then access the Commission's document library. She highlighted collaboration features similar to Google Docs (online Word editing and simultaneous authoring), how to view version history and restore files from a 93‑day recycle bin, and the sharing options (group members only, county users, specific people, or public 'anyone' links with cautions about sensitive information).
Staff said they will upload the how‑to video to the Commission's SharePoint site and can remove and re‑invite members if an invitation goes to spam. DeNardi also noted that some features (such as mention/tagging) behave differently for non‑county accounts and recommended contacting IT for one‑on‑one help.
Next steps: county IT will provide a recorded walkthrough and remain available for individualized support; staff will use SharePoint to distribute retreat materials, facilitator bios and any budget templates ahead of the Jan. 25 retreat.
