Board approves MTPO and housing-authority appointments and several proclamations

At its April 8 meeting, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners approved several appointments and proclamations as part of routine business.
On nominations for the non-Gainesville municipal seat to the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO), the board moved to appoint Monique Taylor after commissioners nominated three candidates; the motion carried by voice vote. Allison Moss, the county’s transportation planning manager, said staff would take commissioner feedback and incorporate recommended processes into the bylaws and an interlocal agreement.
The board also unanimously approved Michelle Beans to fill a vacancy on the Alachua County Housing Authority board. Members of the public, including Kylie Blanc and Ronald Hall (director of operations for the local housing authority), urged filling seats to improve quorum and to address voucher use and landlord participation issues.
The board adopted proclamations recognizing National Poetry Month (April 1–30), National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and Fair Housing Month, and commissioners acknowledged employee length-of-service honorees and retirees.
